My name is Adrian Marnewick. I’m a Cape Town-based social entrepreneur and ecommerce development director specialising in ecommerce and emarketing strategies for South African startups. I’ve been building online businesses since 2004, and building web sites since 1997.
I’m the co-founder and managing director of Learning Lab Apps, and the founder and ecommerce director of eCommerce Lab. My past work includes Amazon.com, EvaluNet and Click2Learn. I’ve personally designed and built a number of successful, and a number of soon-to-be successful online businesses.
I’m a passionate believer in the future of ecommerce and mobile shopping in South Africa and I’m always on the lookout for like-minded companies, startups and entrepreneurs to partner with. If you’d like to talk, contact me.
If you’d like to keep up-to-date on my latest business ventures and startups then follow me on Twitter – @AdrianMarnewick.
Personal & Education
I’m a redeemed Christian, husband and father.
For fun, I sing as a baritone-tenor in the Tygerberg Men’s Choir and Ivan Rebroff is my hero.
In my spare-time I volunteer as a firefighter and medic for the Volunteer Wildfire Services and the City of Cape Town Disaster Risk Management. I’ve been doing this for the past 10 years. I believe that giving back to my community through volunteering as a fire fighter is my calling. I previously served as the Marketing & Communications Director, and later the Training Director for the Volunteer Wildfire Services, but now I’m just a regular fire fighter and get a real kick out of driving the big red fire engines and flying in our awesome helicopters.
As a hobby I keep bonsai.
Sport? Not really my thing. I enjoy chess (if that counts as a sport?). But I do love watching my son’s junior soccer matches and swimming galas. He is a real champ. As Chad le Clos’ dad would say in that husky voice of his: “Unbelieveable”.
I love reading, primarily criminology, thrillers/horrors, and then of course plenty of business books.
Anything to do with entrepreneurship and ecommerce startups gets me going. I’ve studied Business Management through the University of Stellenbosch and Louis Group Business Academy, as well as Project Management through the University of Cape Town Graduate Business School and GetSmarter.
I believe in life-long learning and I continuously stay up-to-date on the latest design and marketing trends. In 2007 I was one of the first few graduates of the Quirk eMarketing course and the things I learnt from that course have shaped the way I approach ecommerce to this day.
